Faith in Latex: A discussion about religion, spirituality, sexuality and condom usage
When used properly, condom usage can save lives and prevent the spread of disease; yet, there are still deeply rooted moral, religious, and ethical controversies that prevent proper wide spread condom education. On Wednesday June 9, 2010 at 7:30pm, the Museum of Sex, in partnership with AIDS Service Center NYC and Gay Men’s Health Crisis, will present a free public program entitled “Faith in Latex” discussing religious faith and condom usage. Featuring a panelist of leaders in the Catholic, Pentacostal, Episcopalian, Buddhist, and Jewish faiths, this event will discuss reconciling religious devotion with condom usage and explore how practitioners can have dual faith in both religion and rubbers.
- Panelists:
- Father Gilbert Martinez, CSP
- Reverend Earl Kooperhamp, St. Mary’s Episcopal Church of Harlem
- Rabbi Melissa Simon - Congregation Beth Simchat Torah
- Reverend Brenda Starks-Ross – Trinity Pentecostal House of Prayer
- Roshi Pat Enkyo O'Hara – abbot of the Village Zendo
- Joel Roselin, Moderator - MTS, Columbia University
Faith in Latex is a free event open to the public. It will feature a panel discussion, audience Q & A, as well as free admission to the RUBBERS exhibition.
